Lukas Equine Veterinary Service prides ourselves in providing extremely reliable equine emergency services. Equine emergency services are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Remember to try to stay calm and assess the situation at hand. Call your veterinarian right away if you are concerned or notice anything abnormal with your horse.
Some common emergencies may include:
- Not eating
- Colic
- Lacerations or wounds
- Allergic reactions
- Swollen or tearing eye
- Sudden onset of severe lameness
- Sudden swelling of a limb
- Birthing difficulties (dystocias)
- Choke
- Nasal discharge

Adult Horse: 98–101.5°F
Newborn Foal: 99–102°F
Heart Rate:
Adult Horse: 30–44 beats per minute
Newborn Foal: 60–100 beats per minute
Respiratory Rate:
Adult Horse: 8–16 breaths per minute
Newborn Foal: 20–40 breaths per minute
